into the light

I got her!

It's been a hectic past month,  with all the over-time sometimes I feel like I live at work.
(it does not help that I can see the casino every time I am out and about. I even see the lights at night when I am home) I work with a great bunch of people, all ages and backgrounds.  I don't always get to sit and direct from Podium and Control. Tonight was one of those nights.

I started my shift taking the assessment test for Dual Supervisor position. Lot's of questions, I am sure everyone has taken something similar with their jobs, it is mostly an evaluation that asks how you feel, strongly for, strongly against or in the middle. I roved for a while afterwards, doing chips fills, cash box runs, and started the Post 8 position at the West garage, a Post I would return to 3 times during my shift. It is a heavy traffic area, sometimes it feels like a New York subway station, the elevators open up (5 of them) and out comes crowds of people, all headed towards you.

We get a good mixture of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, and plenty of people to I.D.if they look like they are under 30.  Tonight  I had an ID count of 154 by myself, and 6 people who were turned away. Why turned away? If they do no have identification that shows their age, picture and expiration date, they are turned away. If their I.D.has expired, they are turned away.  If their I.D. is false, or invalid, they are turned away.  We try to be as nice as possible, but we have to follow the letter of the law. If we let someone in who is underage, or cannot prove their age, then we are at fault.  There are always Turn Aways, and we  use the radio to advise other posts, because sure enough, they will try another door.

Tonight I had a pretty Hispanic lady from the Honduras.  I know I have seen her face as a regular around the casino before.  I asked for her I.D. and she shared it. Because there was no expiration date we had to get approval from a supervisor or manager. So we waited till one became available, she stood at our post for about 10 minutes. The verdict was No, sorry.  So she had her friends got back on the elevator and left, and I called the information over the radio. Shortly after that I was relieved from post.

Roving and on my way to deliver chips I saw someone familiar..oh! Gee, I remember you, it has not been that long.  There she was, having tried another door on a busy night and gotten in. I followed them around and called it into Surveillance and for a supervisor.  They eventually noticed me following them and I said "Hi! remember me?"  Someone from her group said that she had another I.D. and entered somewhere else. I calmly waited for help to arrive..and out the door she was walked. I know she understood, I caught the "I hate you" in her eyes. Sorry, just my job mam. She would not have waited at my post so long if another I.D. was available. We hear stories all the time.  People will say just about anything to get inside..and mostly lose their money.

So tonight..I got my woman. You'd better believe I will remember her face. Nothing as exciting as some people's jobs, but it keeps us hopping. For the most part, my job is never boring. There is plenty of need, and plenty to do. I don't mind the work, it has actually been good for me physically to have a job that blends brains with activity, keeps the weight down, and tones the legs.  Most of our patrons are very nice, and we have a lot of regulars. My only regret is that the pay is not so good. Everyone who works there deserves better than what we receive, the only exception being the dealers who are well tipped.

That's all for tonight..I still have a pile of paperwork to get through for licensing, and lots of calls to make. Hopefully inspiration will hit again soon. I wrote about work because that is all it seems I have been doing of late.

Hugs, and good night,
K
PS: Gilly is pissed at me for typing and not playing with him.
